On the night of Friday, February 14th, Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary located in Ravenna suffered a devastating loss. A quickly-spreading fire was discovered in the goat/sheep barn by a staff member early in the evening. Two goats named Natasha and Odessa who are part of our Farm Animal Visitation Program, were rescued and moved to safety along with two barn cats named Myles and Lola. The goats and Myles are healthy and doing well. Lola is being examined by the vet for possible smoke inhalation, though we expect a complete recovery for her. Sadly we were unable to save two other goats, a pot belly pig and a rooster.
We are very grateful to the four fire departments who arrived at the scene to contain the fire. Fortunately the fire did not spread to other nearby barns and shelters and was isolated in the one building. The barn is a total loss. The cause of the fire is not verified at this time, but it is suspected that either a heat lamp or possibly an electrical cord may be the source of the blaze.
We appreciate everyone’s prayers and support at this difficult time. More details and photos will be provided as they become available.
Thank you,
