Pot Belly
Pigs |

Pot belly pigs
make fantastic pets, but do require special care! Happy Trails has basic
requirements that will assure quality care and proper facilities for the
comfort and happiness of the piggies. All of the pot belly pigs require a
large yard for exercise. Arthritis is a debilitating and crippling disease
that can affect pigs when they are confined in too small of a space,
especially when combined with the dangerous practice of over-feeding.
Nutrition is extremely important, and a healthy diet of commercial pot
belly pig pellets provide the needed vitamins and nutrients, along with
healthy snacks of apples, carrots, pears, bananas, or other low-fat
treats. In the Winter, Happy Trails does require that the pigs have access
to an area with heat lamps for their comfort. Here at the sanctuary, we
provide not only heat lamps, but also offer the pigs old sleeping bags and
comforters from the local Good Will stores. The pigs often choose to
snuggle up under a nice sleeping bag on a bitter cold Winter night. Their
medical care consists of yearly check-ups (similar to what you would do
for your dog). The pigs require yearly vaccines, worming practices, have
their hooves and tusks trimmed, their eyes and ear canals cleaned, and a
general health assessment concerning any arthritis or skin issues. Their
fencing needs to be proper and able to contain them safely. Please think
it through very carefully before deciding to adopt a pot belly pig. If you
have any questions about their care, please don't hesitate to contact us
either through the email form or by calling
(330) 296-5914. |

Aladdin: Aladdin
is slowly coming around to trust people, and will allow an
occasional belly rub nowdays. Aladdin is quite the adventures and
would prefer a very large yard in which to play and root around. He
also gets along famously with all the other pot belly pigs, chickens
and even the resident goat! |

Asbury:
Ashbury came to Happy Trails with a length of
water hose tied tightly around her stomach. It had actually grown into
her skin in places. At first As was very sensitive about having her
belly touched, the hose must have hurt terribly since she was
extremely obese and the hose had created a horrible dent going around
her mid-section. Asbury has lost some of the weight, and is now happy
to have her belly rubbed. The dent going around her mid-section has
somewhat lessened, and she now wanders happily around the sanctuary.
She is friendly, but knows what she wants. She would be the dominant
piggy, and when food is involved, she is on a mission. For a large
pig, she is very fast! She's good buddies with Priscilla the pig, and
they often snuggle up tonight on a cool night. Asbury needs a special
home who will continue to be kind to her and keep her on a strict,
healthy diet to help with her healing process and still needing to
lose some of the excessive weight. Asbury has come a long way, and is
a joy to have here at Happy Trails. She so deserves a permanent,
loving home! Adoption Fee

Zinger
is an awesome little guy,
somewhere around four to five years old. He is people oriented, and
wanders around the sanctuary looking for someone to hold still long
enough so he can lay on their feet. Zinger does like the attention the
companionship of other pigs, but seems to be friends with all of them
and has not picked out a special pig. He does extra well with Madonna
and she seems to be his favorite girl pig. To know Zinger is like
having a little comedian around — he's funny and smart and extremely
social. This little guy is going be make some lucky family a terrific,
special little pet pig! Adoption Fee
