Internship opportunities at Happy Trails are available year round for qualifying students. Internships provide students with a rewarding and unique way to gain hands-on experience in a variety of departments at Happy Trails, including farm animal care, marketing and promotions, and non-profit administration. In order to qualify for an internship, the student must be fulfilling a requirement towards a college degree. Former Happy Trails interns have included those seeking Biology, Zoology, Veterinary Technology, Marketing, and Business degrees, but all interested students are encouraged to apply. Internships are tailored to fit both the needs of the organization as well as each individual student. A regular weekly schedule is required, and will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Students may also have the opportunity to work on specific projects at the sanctuary to gain further experience into specific aspects of non-profit animal rescue and farm animal rehabilitation.

Application Process:

To apply for an internship, please submit a Volunteer/Intern application. In addition to the application form, please also include the following information:

-What school you are currently attending and the type of degree sought.

-Why are you interested in an internship position at Happy Trails?

-How many internship hours are required by your program, and in what time frame do you need to complete your hours?

-What is your scheduling availability during this time frame?

-Please submit a copy of any paperwork from your educational institution that would need to be completed.

Please submit your application to [email protected]. A $20 application fee (reduced student rate) is required per application. This fee helps to cover expenses involved with processing and screening applications and conducting background checks. You may submit your fee online and include “Volunteer/Intern application” in the notes section, or by sending a check by mail.

Once you have submitted your application and supplemental information, your information will be reviewed and you will be contacted in the order received. We advise that you apply for internships early, as there are a limited number of positions available.

While the work is hard and the grounds are muddy, an internship at Happy Trails promises to offer some of the most rewarding, challenging, and life-changing experiences that one could have. We hope that you will consider joining us in our mission to spread kindness and compassion for all animals.
