Tuscany:
This beautiful 3 year old Saddlebred filly came to Happy Trails
after our Executive Director, Annette Fisher, purchased her directly
from a meat buyer. He bought her at the Mt. Hope Auction for only
$50 - for another $50, Annette was able to purchase the horse from
him before he loaded her onto the truck destined for the Canada
slaughterhouse. She was terrified, head-shy, and scared to death of
people. You can
read her story and watch her progress. Tuscany spent six days at
Ken Aberegg's, our equine trainer, and in that short period of time,
she learned to slowly once again trust her human friends. Tuscany
has come a very long way in a very short amount of time. She now
looks for us servants at feeding time and puts her head out of the
stalls and whinnies to us, she allows us to walk up to her and pet
with confidence and no longer throws herself backwards, and she is
leading very politely on a lead-line. Once she gains some weight,
some muscle, and some more trust in people, Tuscany is going to make
someone a VERY nice riding horse. though she listed as a Saddlebred,
she appears to be gaited. She will be evaluated at the Equine
Specialty Hospital next week, and will receive a thorough medical
check-up at that time. More details to come. Adoption applications
will now be accepted for Tuscany, though she will not be made
available for adoption until we feel that she is well on her way to
recovery. An adoption fee will be determined after her medical
evaluation. |
