Feathered Friends : Chickens
Happy Trails always has an assortment of chickens available for adoption. The assortment includes hens and roosters of varying breeds.
Many of the roosters have been removed from cock-fighting rings and must be adopted to single bird homes because of their fighting instinct. These roosters are very friendly with people but do not get along with other birds.
All chickens adopted from Happy Trails must have a safe shelter that is closed and secure at night in order to protect them from predators. In addition, we recommend a secure fenced yard for the daily turn out of the chickens.
All chickens adopted from Happy Trails must be adopted in pairs or adopted to homes that already have a companion animal.
NOTE: Due to the number of feathered friends in and out of Happy Trails, we are only listing a few in each category. To make inquiries about additional chickens we have up for adoption, Contact Us and we will be glad to provide further information.

About our Cleveland Rescued Cockfighting Roosters
Happy Trails assisted Cleveland Animal Control with rescuing roosters from a cockfighting situation on March 8th, 2013. “Lenny” (shown above) is among the majority of the rescued roosters who enjoy being held and petted. "Sam" (pictured below, right) is typical of the roosters now signed over to Happy Trails. His comb and his wattles had been cut off. The black that you see around his face is dried blood.
It is unconscionable to force an otherwise docile animal to fight for its life in a fight to the death. Cockfighting is sadly prevalent in every county in Ohio. We can only assist with these cases when we have the space and the resources to do so. By adopting a rooster, you are actually saving two! Please consider adopting one of the 34 roosters from this rescue. Click this link for more photos from this rescue and more details about cockfighting — March 8th Cleveland Rooster Rescue
