Update On Chevaz — The Horse Who Had Colic Surgery
Thanks to everyone who donated toward the colic surgery for Chevaz, the beautiful black, Standardbred gelding, who came to Happy Trails as a retired Amish horse. Here's the latest update on Chevaz.

Horses, Horses And More Horses!
As of the writing of this article, Happy Trails has 38 horses that the sanctuary is currently responsible for — all which have come from either abuse, neglect or abandonment situations, or from our Amish Horse Retirement Program. Several horses were part of the May 9th rescue from the Sugarcreek Auction where they would have ended up heading to slaughter. Chevaz The Standardbred Underwent Emergency Colic Surgery
A beautiful, black retired Amish buggy horse, a Standardbred gelding named Chevaz, needed emergency surgery, and due to unexpected complications, the cost was much more than we anticipated. Happy Trails now needs to raise funds to cover an $8,550 hospital bill — can you please help pass along the flier attached to this article?

Thanks to The Kindness Of Animal-Lovers From Literally Across The Globe — 25 Horses Were Saved From the Kill Pens At Sugarcreek On Friday May 9th!
25 horses, mostly draft breeds, along with several Standardbreds and several donkeys, were saved from being purchased by the meat-buyers at the Sugarcreek Auction on Friday, May 9th! Read the details and check out the photos here!
